Into the Wilds: Wonder

Acrylic on Gallery Canvas

36” x 60”

2026

Recent work has developed around a lovely summery afternoon walk in lake country with girlfriends. This new girl is a testament to time well spent at the paint wall playing with colour, relationships and composition. It’s a fictional place designed to inspire a sense of wonder and possibility and for me with a very tight timeline and nobody to please but myself I wondered if I could manage such a large space in a short time frame

Apparently I can. Hope you love her as much as I enjoyed creating her with my focus firmly honed on the creative process.

Lake Winnipeg is an expansive inland ocean edged by a plethora of micro and macro ecosystems. Each one contributes in its own way to the health and diversity of the lakeside landscape that inspires my summer experience.

Between the waters exhibits just a snipit of the growing and vital flora I love so much

The poppy is a perennial player in my painting practice. This piece evolved out of a recent commission and will be one of two poppy paintings to potentially greet visitors at 38 Aldershot, Winnipeg in June 2026.

In the practice of Feng Shui, the colour red is said to inspire yang energy, attract abundance, provide protection and clear negative energy. A bouquet of painted poppies then make for a natural, low maintenance choice to invite guests into our personal spaces.

Framed @$1260 inclusive of taxes

I often paint in groups in a fun game of creative play where boundaries merge and expand and compositions multiply. New Naturalism began as a triptych, a three panelled painting that included 5 compositions.

The centre panel, “Union”, has sold but the remaining pair can act as a diptych as well as individual compositions.

Recently framed this narrow vertical shape compliments small spaces like bathrooms and reading nooks with a pop of colour and the addition of Red’s energetic invitation.

I work at solving visual equations on the paint wall in colour. Contrasts and compliments often feature in my landscape based work which I always consider to be play.

In our homes we aim to express ourselves with our choices and also to find a balance between action and rest, to procure the comfort we seek. The greens in this composition invoke the natural world to attract prosperity and positivity. Fresh flowers that require no weeding or watering for the ultimate in low maintenance gardening are always a comfort for thise of us who spend more than half the year with winters white underfoot.

Colour is as always my focus. This time roadside “weeds” in the apttly named Lake of the Woods provide the vehicle ffor colour. Shapes and textures build in layers to suggest the energetic growth so often over looked o our jouney from here to there.

August Afternoon: Bouquet

August Afternoon: Bouquet

This small composition, part of the August Afternoon Series was inspired by a walk with friends in Canadian Lake country. The combination of wild undergrowth and extended days of sunshine were reduced to layers of marks that built an impression of an uncultivated incidental greenspace.

This compostion continues explorations into often unnoticed roadside vegetation that blooms vigorously at the end of a Canadian summer. My marks have built up in layers to suggest growth and movement and create an impression of my curiosity and experience with friends in lake of the Woods.

Acrylic on Gallery Canvas 2025

The soft yet intense colour palette reads summertime on the Canadian Prairies. Colour shapes and painterly marks combine to infer a fictional perennial garden bed or wild untended garden.

“Bloom” is the right hand panel of this triptych

Fielding Dreams: Growth/ Nurture/ Bloom

This triptych is made up of three gallery depth canvas panels @ 24” x 36” each panel.

$3900

Painted in acrylic by Amanda Onchulenko, this trio is made up of a series of marks, layered intuitively to create a colourful fictional garden. Each panel works as a singleton as well as adjacent pairs.

Composition is a game I love to play and a multipanelled painting offers an opportunity to devise multiple compositions within the trio. The colour scheme is a little softer than many of my paintings. perfect for those with a desire for a low maintenance garden that will bloom indoors year round with memories of late summer blossoms intact.

Each Panel @$1410

All panels unframed.

INTO THE MIST

INTO THE MIST

20” x 20”

Acrylic on Gallery Canvas, 2024

$775

This loose painterly sketch infers the Prairie in full bloom with minimal marks. A contrasting colour palette of Canola yellow and Flax blue is balanced by the warmth of quinocridone red, a hint of mint and some deep olive and bottle greens.

Created at the end of a painting period this little composition flows with a less verses more philosophy.

“Into the Mist” is currently welcoming visitors to our summer cottage after its partner, “The Majorca Cardigan” which earned its name from a daughter’s travel chenanigans while I was painting at the studio, went to her forever home with a lake neighbour.

Passage

Passage

Passage was created in response to a request for a 24” x 24” piece to partner in a group show. These blooms evolved on the paintwall in the depths of a Canadian winter set on the prairies. This garden can bllom year round no matter the weather.

Acrylic on Panel 11” x 14”, 2025 @ $380

Sweet Treat : Spritz is about contrasts and compliment, about being present with materials making creative choices.

Any creative moment spent in a solo pursuit or within a group setting is always a salve. The result is a composition that might be small but packs a visual punch that far outweighs her weight class.

New work on the paint wall has been taking shape in delicious colours. Imagery is inspired by incidental greenspaces…you know those weeds along roadsides and down country lanes especially in lake country.

My work begins with an action a colour and a mark and I allow those initial marks to lead the way into a composition

I have always been drawn to colour and colour relationships. In much of my work I try to tease out a little reaction between contrasts. In this little piece i was attracted to the water and how the addition of a yellow to the the light blue violet of the water flattened out the surface to infer a breathless late summer afternoon.
